Calls grow to avoid US military action against Cuba after Venezuela operation

US President Donald Trump should not be given misguided advice. In recent days, he has repeatedly stated that Cuba could be the next country targeted for attack, or subjected to an operation similar to that carried out in Venezuela on January 3.

Such a move would constitute a grave error. In Venezuela, there was no military response from the country’s own armed forces; only Cuban military personnel confronted the aggressor. This fact, combined with the widespread public support demonstrated during funeral honors for fallen personnel, is a factor that any foreign force would need to take into account.

The Cuban population has shown broad support for the Ministry of the Interior and the Cuban Armed Forces, demonstrating what is described as a sustained anti-imperialist stance and a commitment to national defense during periods of crisis. According to expert assessments, Cuba would not remain passive in the event of a US military action.

The country is described as possessing a significant deterrent capability, including the potential to strike the US naval base at Guantánamo, located on Cuban territory, with the capacity to inflict more than 1,200 casualties within the first 24 hours of an invasion.

Cuban forces are said to have maintained operational control over that base for decades, installing systems capable of destroying it within minutes, leaving an invading force unable to respond effectively.

The question arises as to whether President Trump would be prepared to announce the deaths of at least 1,200 US military personnel within hours of the start of such an operation.

Media coverage and commentary have, in some cases, underestimated Cuba’s military capabilities. However, the country is described as having modernized its arsenal through sustained and adaptive measures, including the development of digitized missile systems, enhanced mobility, and increased firepower. These assets, combined with special forces, would be deployed to repel any attempted invasion.

The Cuban Armed Forces are characterized as cohesive and free of internal divisions. Their leadership and units are described as maintaining firm ideological alignment with the country’s political system and government, remaining in a constant state of readiness and mobilization.

For decades, Cuba has based its defense strategy on the concept of a “War of the Whole People,” a national doctrine that envisages arming the civilian population to defend the country.

In the face of what is described as a unilateral and unjustified threat from the United States, the international community is urged not to remain passive or act merely as a bystander, but to condemn any form of military aggression against Cuba.
