The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that Egypt and Türkiye had warned senior Hamas officials in Qatar in recent weeks about a possible Israeli attack and insisted they increase their security measures.

The Journal reported that on Tuesday, more than 10 Israeli Air Force fighter jets participated in an attack on Hamas headquarters in Doha. At least 10 long-range missiles were fired from outside the airspace of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, but the launch locations were not disclosed.

Citing official sources in Israel, Qatar, other Arab countries, and US security circles, the report stated that preparations for the attack took several months. The operation’s objective was to target senior Hamas figures who were meeting on Tuesday afternoon to discuss a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

According to senior US officials quoted in the report, the US military was informed of the operation a few minutes after the fighter jets departed and before the missiles were launched. However, Israel did not share the exact location of the target.

According to the report, the head of US Central Command, General Brad Cooper, was traveling to Cairo when he learned of the attack and informed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Kane. Shortly thereafter, President Trump was also briefed and instructed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to inform Qatari officials.
