Khamenei cautions Iranian government on US negotiations
While the Iranian government expressed enthusiasm for negotiations with the US, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cautioned government officials to exercise prudence in their dealings with the United States.
During a meeting with diplomatic representatives from Islamic countries at his Tehran residence on Miraj Night, Khamenei addressed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. He commended Gaza’s resistance against Israel, stating, “The small and limited Gaza has brought the Zionist regime to its knees despite being heavily armed and fully supported by the United States.” Khamenei also praised Hezbollah in Lebanon for its resilience against Israel, even after the loss of its leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Addressing the Iranian government’s eagerness for negotiations with the US, Khamenei cautioned, “We must recognize that behind the diplomatic smiles of the Americans lies malice, hidden enmities, and grudges. We must be vigilant and pay attention to who we are dealing with, interacting with, and talking to.”
Recently, senior Iranian government officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, have expressed their willingness to engage in nuclear negotiations with the United States to lift sanctions.
In a January 23 interview with Fox News, then US President-elect Donald Trump, who implemented stringent sanctions against Tehran, suggested the possibility of a nuclear deal with Iran.
