Russian President Vladimir Putin announced yesterday that Moscow is prepared to transfer $1 billion from its previously frozen assets to the “Peace Council” project proposed by US President Donald Trump.

Speaking at a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council, Putin stated, “We can transfer $1 billion from Russian assets, which were frozen during the term of the previous US administration, to the Peace Council.”

Noting that an official response to the invitation will be issued following a review of relevant documents by the Foreign Ministry and consultations with strategic partners, Putin remarked that Moscow has always supported efforts aimed at strengthening international stability.

Putin also confirmed receiving a personal invitation from Donald Trump and thanked the US President for the proposal.

Trump: We want all nations where the people have power

In a separate statement regarding the matter, Trump expressed his desire for all countries with global influence, including Russia, to be represented on the Peace Council.

Responding to a question on why Putin was included, Trump said, “We want everyone. We want all nations. We want all nations where the people have control, have power. That is why he was invited and accepted.”

“Focus of the proposal is Gaza and Palestine”

Putin indicated that the proposal submitted to Russia focuses primarily on resolving the crisis in the Middle East, specifically the situation in Gaza.

The Russian leader stated, “The proposal presented to us mainly concerns a settlement in the Middle East, the search for possible solutions to the urgent problems of the Palestinian people, and resolving the severe humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.”

Emphasizing that any solution process must reflect the basic needs and aspirations of the Palestinians, including the reconstruction of Gaza, Putin added that this should contribute to a long-term resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Putin also noted that Russia maintains a “special relationship” with the Palestinian people.

Regarding US intentions toward Greenland, Putin stated that they harbor no concerns, saying, “What happens in Greenland does not concern us at all.”

However, drawing a comparison with the US purchase of Alaska, Putin argued that based on its surface area, Greenland’s value could range between $200 million and $250 million.

“The difference between Alaska and Greenland is approximately 450,000 square kilometers. Therefore, if you compare it to the amount the US paid to purchase Alaska, the price of Greenland would be around $200-250 million,” Putin said.

“US and Denmark will handle it between themselves”

Stating that the Greenland issue is a matter to be resolved between Washington and Copenhagen, Putin said, “I think they will handle it between themselves.”

Noting that the US can afford such a purchase and that Denmark has prior experience selling territory to the US, Putin claimed that Denmark has historically treated Greenland like a colony and said that Russia has experience in resolving similar issues with Washington.

Witkoff and Kushner heading to Moscow for Ukraine talks

Touching upon the Ukraine issue, Putin announced that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are expected to arrive in Moscow on Thursday for talks.

Putin said, “I plan to discuss all these issues with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whom we will meet tomorrow, as well as with US representatives Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who are coming to Moscow tomorrow to continue the dialogue on Ukraine resolution issues.”

Putin added that they have discussed with the Trump administration the possibility of directing $1 billion of Russia’s frozen assets to the Peace Council for Gaza, while allocating the remaining funds to the reconstruction of damaged regions in Ukraine following a peace agreement.
