Ukraine faces ammunition shortages as US supplies dwindle

According to a report in Forbes magazine, the Ukrainian army is struggling to use its large 2S7 Pion howitzers due to restrictions on supplies from the US.

Due to the lack of ammunition, the insufficient supply of 203mm ammunition, despite additional installations, negatively impacts the intensity of fire.

Last year, the US provided Ukraine with 10,000 rounds of M105 and M106 ammunition, but according to Forbes, stocks in American warehouses are depleted.

Ukraine does not produce this type of ammunition, and the number of countries that can supply it is very limited. This explains why 2S7s are rarely used on the front lines.

Disruptions in supplies make the participation of these howitzers in combat operations irregular, which calls into question the future use of these weapons.

Kyiv seeks alternatives to air defense systems

In another Forbes article, it was stated that Ukraine is seeking alternatives to American air defense systems.

According to the magazine, the US has almost established a monopoly on surface-to-air missiles, launchers, and radars.

However, due to the policies pursued by US President Donald Trump, Ukraine and its allies can no longer expect continuous support from the US.

Trump’s stance on this issue became even clearer after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington.

It is stated that London may supply Ukraine with 5,000 Martlet air defense missiles. It was also noted that the Norwegian company Kongsberg intends to cooperate with a Ukrainian company to produce NASAMS missiles.

On February 20, Roman Kostenko, Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, announced that the Washington administration had stopped arms sales to Ukraine.

Kostenko stated that companies are waiting for a decision from American authorities to supply weapons, “at least even for money.” This situation was later confirmed by Rada deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko.
