These developments can be seen as an opportunity that could turn into a concrete reality, depending on how the Palestinian side approaches this possibility.<\/p>\n
While the importance of recognitions and conferences cannot be denied, they alone do not establish a Palestinian state. On the contrary, they represent the foundational steps on a long journey, or the peak reached through a cumulative national effort supported by Arab backing, regional integration, and international coordination.<\/p>\n
These initiatives may be viewed by some international circles as an attempt to reestablish a symbolic balance between the Palestinian people\u2014crushed by the brutal military assaults of the Zionist occupation forces\u2014and the occupying power. At the same time, they send a message that the compass of international legitimacy still points toward the recognition of Palestine, rather than accepting the consequences of the genocidal war or moving to liquidate the Palestinian cause.<\/p>\n
Undoubtedly, this message is of critical importance; it is a necessary condition for redefining the Palestinian issue as a national liberation struggle of an occupied people in the aftermath of the events of October 7. It also serves as a powerful stance against the false narrative that Israel’s propaganda machine attempts to fabricate regarding the nature of the conflict and the war.<\/p>\n
However, no matter how significant these new international positions may be, they will not be decisive or sufficient on their own for the establishment of a Palestinian state. They only acquire real meaning when accompanied by a unified Palestinian vision and an effective political process.<\/p>\n
International recognition is one of the essential components of statehood, alongside population, territory, and government. It is worth recalling here that the State of Palestine (Arab state) was essentially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 181 in 1947. This resolution envisaged the establishment of two states\u2014one Arab and one Jewish\u2014and was supported by the major powers of the time, including the United States and the Soviet Union. Legally speaking, this recognition is more binding than many of the individual recognitions being made today.<\/p>\n
Although the decision was rejected by the Arab world due to the unjust partition of the land and was seen as extremely unfair to the Palestinian people, the failure of this recognition to translate into political and legal reality was due mainly to the absence of a recognized Palestinian political structure at the international level at that time, and the lack of a government exercising sovereignty over the land allocated to the Palestinian state.<\/p>\n
A similar scenario was repeated in different forms after the declaration of the State of Palestine in Algiers in 1988. During that period, the number of countries recognizing the Palestinian state increased, and this momentum continued until the Oslo Accords, which marked the peak of international support for the two-state solution.<\/p>\n
Although each of these processes unfolded under different conditions, the common denominator was that despite international legitimacy and legal recognition, the Palestinian state was not materialized on the ground.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s Palestinian reality shows that, as a result of a war waged against the entire Palestinian people, the fundamental components of statehood\u2014territory and political entity\u2014are on the verge of collapse. The fact that the Palestinian people still remain on their land is a true miracle in the face of this unprecedented savagery, violence, and systematic effort to erase their existence.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the anticipated international recognitions, if greeted only with symbolic celebrations, do not yet amount to an achievement worthy of celebration. At this point, the focus of national workshops must be on ensuring the Palestinian people’s deep-rooted attachment to their land, maintaining unity in decision-making, and preserving the integrity of representative institutions. However, these elements are currently under threat, and the war has deepened the crisis in these areas. Unless these crises are overcome, the challenges facing the Palestinian national project cannot be surmounted either.<\/p>\n
Despite all the brutality and arrogance that “Israel” has inflicted upon the Palestinian people, it is not possible for this aggression to subjugate the Palestinian people everywhere or to achieve the goals it labels as \u201cabsolute victory.\u201d On the contrary, what Israel considers a victory may, in fact, deepen its security and existential crises, threaten regional stability and global peace, and lead to unpredictable consequences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
