{"id":10845,"date":"2025-08-11T14:29:28","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T11:29:28","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2025-08-11T14:29:28","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T11:29:28","slug":"whistleblower-claims-2016-election-interference-report-was-deliberately-distorted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harici.com.tr\/en\/whistleblower-claims-2016-election-interference-report-was-deliberately-distorted\/","title":{"rendered":"Whistleblower claims 2016 election interference report was deliberately distorted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-spacing=\"double\">The US Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) released declassified <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" spellcheck=\"false\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dni.gov\/files\/ODNI\/documents\/DIG\/DIG-Declassified-Whistleblower-Testimony-Obama-Subvert-President-Trump-July2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">documents<\/a><\/span> on July 30, featuring testimony from a former intelligence official.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">The documents state that the whistleblower was pressured by superiors to approve the 2017 <em>Intelligence Community Assessment<\/em> (ICA) report but refused to sign it, arguing that its findings did not reflect reality.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\"><strong>Attacks attributed to Russia actually came from other countries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">The official, who served as a \u201ccyber issues\u201d expert on the National Intelligence Council from 2015 to 2020, argued that the claims of Russian interference to support Trump in the 2016 presidential election were baseless.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">The whistleblower said that cyber activities attributed to Russia could have been carried out by other actors through \u201cdomain name system (DNS) record manipulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">\u201cMy professional judgment was that multiple countries were trying to shape the opinions of US voters,\u201d said the official, adding that these countries included NATO allies.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">The whistleblower stated that the 2017 report was largely based on English-language content from Russian media, which he described as an \u201cinadequate analysis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">\u201cI could not approve the report\u2019s conclusions based on the available information,\u201d the official said, explaining that a senior manager asked him to approve the report as a condition for a promotion, but he refused on the grounds of \u201cstandards, methodology, and ethics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\"><strong>Differing views among the CIA, FBI, and NSA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Although the CIA, FBI, and NSA signed the assessment, the NSA only expressed \u201cmoderate confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">The whistleblower said that the FBI had opposed the \u201cRussian influence effort\u201d claims two months before the election but changed its stance after the election results.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">He also reported that information in the classified section of the report was based on the discredited \u201cTrump-Russia\u201d dossier by former MI6 agent Christopher Steele.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Among the \u201cother actors\u201d highlighted by the whistleblower were the Alfa Bank allegations presented to the FBI by Michael Sussmann, a lawyer connected to Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">These allegations claimed a secret server connection between Trump and Russia but could not be technically proven.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Additionally, a cyber attempt on Georgia\u2019s voter registration system in 2016, traced to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) IP address, was also mentioned in the documents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The US Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) released declassified documents on July 30, featuring testimony from a former intelligence official.
