The head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, will visit two regional countries passing through a critical period. Larijani will first travel to Iraq, which is at odds with the US over discussions on integrating Hashd al-Shaabi into the Iraqi army, followed by a visit to Lebanon, which is taking steps to disarm Hezbollah under US pressure.<\/p>\n

Before departing for Iraq, Larijani stated that commercial relations with Iraq, which he described as a “friend and neighbor,” are at a high level.<\/p>\n

He announced<\/a><\/span> that a draft of an important security agreement with Iraq has been prepared and will be signed during his visit: “We have a security agreement we are working on with Iraq, and this is a very important point. In its relations with its neighbors, Iran prioritizes the security of the Iranian people while also considering the security of neighboring countries. Unlike some countries, it does not only think of its own security and oppress other nations in the region. This agreement will be signed during this visit.”<\/p>\n

After signing the security agreement in Iraq, Larijani will travel to Lebanon to meet with high-level Lebanese officials.<\/p>\n

In his statement, Larijani also noted that his second stop would be Lebanon, emphasizing the historical ties between the two countries. “Our cooperation with the Lebanese government is long and deep. We hold mutual consultations on many issues occurring in the region. Therefore, under the current special circumstances, we will also hold talks with the officials and influential figures of this country,” he said.<\/p>\n

When asked, “Are you also carrying a message to Lebanon?” Larijani replied, “We have some messages to convey. Our position on Lebanon is already clear. Our view is that it is important to preserve national unity in Lebanon. Lebanon’s independence has always been important to us, and we will support it.”<\/p>\n

The disarmament initiative comes after the war between Israel and Hezbollah last year. This war significantly weakened Hezbollah, and during this process, the US made significant interventions in the formation of the new Lebanese government.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration, through its Ankara Ambassador and Special Representative for Syria, Tom Barrack, prepared a “roadmap” for the disarmament of Hezbollah and largely persuaded the Lebanese government to accept this plan.<\/p>\n

Hezbollah has repeatedly declared that it will not disarm under US pressure, but the pressure on the Lebanese government is increasing. The US and Gulf countries are demanding the complete disarmament of Hezbollah in exchange for the necessary loans and investments for Lebanon’s reconstruction.<\/p>\n

The chief advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Akbar Velayati, had announced their opposition to the disarmament of Hezbollah. The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Velayati’s statements as “blatant and unacceptable” interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Iran’s Tasnim agency, Velayati had stated, “Such discussions are not new in Lebanon. These anti-Lebanese conspiracies have failed in the past, and they will not succeed this time either. The resistance will stand against these conspiracies.”<\/p>\n

Stating that “Hezbollah strongly protects Lebanon against Israeli aggression,” Velayati noted that “if Hezbollah were to lay down its arms, no one could protect the lives, property, and honor of the Lebanese people.” He added, “The people of Lebanon and the countries of the region wonder whether the Lebanese government has any concern for protecting its country and nation when proposing such plans.”<\/p>\n

Velayati stated, “Iran is absolutely against the disarmament of Hezbollah because Iran has always helped the Lebanese nation and its resistance, and it will continue this assistance now.”<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the month, Iran appointed the 68-year-old Larijani as the head of the Supreme National Security Council, which is responsible for determining Iran’s defense and security strategies.
