Armenia and the United Kingdom have agreed to raise their bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.<\/p>\n
The decision was announced in a joint statement following the second round of strategic dialogue talks between the two countries. The statement emphasized that both sides are preparing to expand cooperation in the fields of security and defense.<\/p>\n
Plans include strengthening high-level contacts, exchanging military attach\u00e9s, enhancing cooperation in cybersecurity, and addressing hybrid threats.<\/p>\n
Support for economy and reforms<\/strong><\/p>\n Special emphasis was placed on economic cooperation. Both parties highlighted the need to deepen trade ties, support Armenia\u2019s inclusive development, continue reforms, and diversify the economy.<\/p>\n The importance of cooperation with international financial institutions was underlined in this process. Yerevan and London also discussed preparations for a comprehensive and enhanced partnership agreement.<\/p>\n London emphasizes normalization<\/strong><\/p>\n The United Kingdom welcomed the agreements reached in Washington between Armenia and Azerbaijan. London described these steps as \u201ccritical milestones\u201d on the path to normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku.<\/p>\n The second round of strategic dialogue was co-chaired by Armenia\u2019s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan and the UK\u2019s Minister of State for Europe and North America, Stephen Doughty. The first round took place in London in 2023.<\/p>\n Cooperation with the United States<\/strong><\/p>\n Alongside closer ties with the UK, Armenia is also strengthening its relations with the United States. On January 14, a strategic cooperation agreement was signed in Washington between Armenia and the US.<\/p>\n The ceremony was attended by then US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
