{"id":11232,"date":"2025-09-03T13:16:26","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T10:16:26","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2025-09-03T13:16:26","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T10:16:26","slug":"survey-reveals-historic-low-in-americans-belief-in-the-american-dream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harici.com.tr\/en\/survey-reveals-historic-low-in-americans-belief-in-the-american-dream\/","title":{"rendered":"Survey reveals historic low in Americans\u2019 belief in the American dream"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-spacing=\"double\">A new <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" spellcheck=\"false\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/economy\/wsj-norc-economic-poll-73bce003?mod=hp_lead_pos8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">survey<\/a><\/span> jointly conducted by <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em> and the NORC research center shows that the proportion of Americans who believe they have a good opportunity to improve their standard of living has fallen to 25%.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">This figure is the lowest level recorded since the surveys began in 1987.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">According to the survey results, more than 75% of participants do not feel confident that their children\u2019s lives will be better than their own.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">This sentiment reflects a declining faith in the economic future of the United States.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\"><strong>The \u2018American dream\u2019 is collapsing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">The research revealed that approximately 70% of Americans no longer believe that \u201chard work leads to success,\u201d a figure noted as the highest level in the last 15 years.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Differences based on party affiliation were also reflected in the results. 55% of Republicans and 90% of Democrats expressed negative views about their own future and the future of their children.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">This is said to reflect the traditional link between the sentiment of the ruling party\u2019s supporters and their assessments of the economy.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\"><strong>Pessimism has spread across all segments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">The negative sentiment was not limited to a specific group, spreading across diverse demographic groups, such as men and women, young and old, college graduates and non-graduates, and families with annual incomes above and below $100,000.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Despite the pessimistic outlook for the future, a relative improvement was observed in assessments of the current state of the economy.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">While 44% of participants described the economy as \u201cexcellent\u201d or \u201cgood,\u201d this rate was at 38% a year ago.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Conversely, 56% of participants consider the economy \u201cweak\u201d or \u201cnot good.\u201d Many of those surveyed stated that they feel an \u201ceconomic fragility\u201d even if their current financial situation is stable.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Participants expressed that the previous generation had better opportunities in areas such as buying a home, starting a business, or leaving a job to care for family.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\"><strong>The \u2018triple blow\u2019 shaking Americans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Karlyn Bowman, a researcher at the American Enterprise Institute, stated that the general pessimism reflects the successive economic shocks Americans have been exposed to, such as the 2008-2009 financial crisis, the coronavirus pandemic, inflation, tariffs, and labor market concerns.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Bowman described the situation as a \u201ctriple blow\u201d that has left deep marks on the confidence of Americans.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">The results of the survey, conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago between July 10-23, came at a time when recession fears persist and the US economy is experiencing a slowdown in growth, despite improvements in official indicators.<\/p>\n<p data-spacing=\"double\">Experts emphasize that a crisis of \u201cconfidence in the future\u201d could be more dangerous than immediate financial crises.
