BBC Director-General Tim Davie and BBC News Director Deborah Turness have resigned, according to the Daily Mail<\/em>, following<\/a><\/span> backlash over a Panorama documentary accused of misleading viewers by distorting a speech made by US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

The controversy erupted after The Telegraph<\/em> published a letter written by former journalist Michael Prescott to the BBC board. In the letter, Prescott claimed that the Panorama<\/em> episode misrepresented Trump\u2019s speech delivered before the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol, altering the timeline of events and creating a false impression of its content.<\/p>\n

The documentary was accused of manipulating excerpts of Trump\u2019s remarks to suggest he incited the attack on Congress, whereas the original speech reportedly included calls for peaceful protest. Prescott argued that this editorial framing violated journalistic ethics by \u201creordering facts to fit a preconceived narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the wake of the controversy, Trump\u2019s spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told The Telegraph<\/em> that the BBC had become \u201ca left-wing propaganda machine\u201d and \u201ca fake news organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

The January 6 incident occurred two months after Trump\u2019s election loss, when his supporters forced their way into the US Capitol as lawmakers gathered to certify Joe Biden\u2019s victory. The violence left five people dead and injured around 140 police officers. Trump later condemned the attack publicly.<\/p>\n

Following these events, Trump faced multiple criminal cases, though all were dismissed after he returned to office. As president once again, he has since pardoned more than a thousand Americans who participated in the January 6 protests.<\/p>\n
