Leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries gathered<\/a><\/span> in St. Petersburg, Russia, for an informal summit.<\/p>\n

Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted the visiting leaders at the meeting held in the St. George’s Hall of the Hermitage Museum.<\/p>\n

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev toured the exhibition at the Hermitage, one of the world’s largest museums, alongside Putin.<\/p>\n

Dominance of national currencies in trade<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking at the summit, Vladimir Putin noted that they had gathered again for the traditional year-end meeting and evaluated the joint work within the CIS framework. Emphasizing that the Community has proven itself as an authoritative regional integration union for over 30 years, Putin stated that relations are based on the principles of good neighborliness, equal partnership, and mutual respect.<\/p>\n

Addressing the course of economic cooperation, Putin said, \u201cIn the first ten months of this year, the trade volume between Russia and the Community members reached approximately $90 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Putin drew attention to the expansion of cooperation in the currency and financial spheres regarding mutual economic operations between member countries, noting the following:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur own payment instruments, independent of foreign banking systems, are being used increasingly actively. The share of national currencies in commercial transactions between Community countries has already exceeded 96%.\u201d<\/p>\n

Logistics corridors and technological sovereignty<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stating that major industrial and infrastructure projects are being implemented with the participation of CIS entrepreneurs, Putin expressed that new Eurasian production and transport chains are being created. Putin said, \u201cNorth-South and East-West transcontinental logistics corridors are being modernized and developed. Additionally, import substitution processes are progressing rapidly, and thus the technological sovereignty of our states is being strengthened.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was pointed out that member countries have an increasing interest in deepening practical cooperation in the fields of industry, science, technology, digitalization, and innovation.<\/p>\n

Counter-terrorism and border security<\/strong><\/p>\n

Emphasizing that security issues continue to be an important agenda item for the CIS, Putin stated that the fight against terrorism, extremism, organized crime, drug trafficking, and corruption continues. Expressing that close operational contacts have been established between law enforcement agencies and competent bodies for this purpose, Putin reported that a counter-terrorism action program until 2028 and a plan to protect the CIS external borders until 2030 are being implemented.<\/p>\n

Emphasis on shared history and the Second World War<\/strong><\/p>\n

Putin also touched upon the importance of cooperation among CIS countries in preserving the common cultural and humanitarian space. Reminding that there are deep traditions and spiritual values connecting the peoples, Putin emphasized that the falsification of shared history must not be allowed.<\/p>\n

Reminding that the 80th anniversary of the Second World War (Great Patriotic War) is being celebrated this year, Putin used the following expressions: \u201cWe must do everything to ensure that the victory and heroism won by our fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers at the cost of countless victims are known by the youth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Announcing a Russian initiative in this context, Putin drew attention to the preparation of a unique archival compilation containing digital copies of previously unpublished documents and photographs addressing the contribution of each union republic to the defeat of Nazism.<\/p>\n

Presidency passes to Turkmenistan<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the end of his speech, thanking Tajik President Emomali Rahmon for his constructive approach during the CIS term presidency, Putin wished success to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who will take over the post as of January 1. Putin said, \u201cWe are ready to provide you with all necessary support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Putin concluded his remarks by reiterating his belief that the partnership within the CIS framework serves the fundamental interests of the peoples.<\/p>\n
