The US conducted a drone strike on a port facility in Venezuela in early December, marking the first time it has directly struck a target within the country’s territory.<\/p>\n

According to sources<\/a><\/span> familiar with the matter who spoke to CNN<\/em>, the operation was carried out by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The target was a remote dock believed to be used by the Venezuela-based Tren de Aragua criminal organization for storing and loading drugs onto vessels.<\/p>\n

No individuals were present at the facility during the strike, and no deaths or injuries were reported in the explosion. One source noted that the attack was largely symbolic in nature, as drug traffickers utilize many similar docks in the region.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, it is emphasized that the operation could cause serious friction in relations between Washington and Caracas.<\/p>\n

Trump confirms the operation: “That place is no longer around”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the operation, US President Donald Trump confirmed that a facility had been hit, though he did not provide specific details.<\/p>\n

Speaking to WABC<\/em> radio, Trump said<\/a><\/span>, \u201cThey had a big facility, a massive object where ships come from. Two nights ago, we knocked that out; we hit them very hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Trump later mentioned<\/a><\/span> to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that while the US had previously struck drug-carrying boats, this time it targeted a logistics center where the narcotics were loaded.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a logistics center, they were organizing everything there, and now that place is no longer around,\u201d Trump stated. He did not respond to questions regarding the CIA’s specific role in the operation.<\/p>\n

Since September, the US military has increased its presence in the Caribbean Sea, conducting operations against Venezuelan vessels.<\/p>\n

While the White House maintains that these activities are part of the fight against drug trafficking, President Trump has also ordered an oil blockade on Venezuela and the interception of sanctioned tankers.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Vanity Fair<\/em> magazine, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles acknowledged that attacks on vessels and infrastructure are also intended to increase pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.<\/p>\n

Maduro, however, has stated that the US is using the war on drugs as a pretext to overthrow him. It is known that the CIA received authorization to conduct covert operations in Venezuela in October.<\/p>\n
