US President Donald Trump is transforming<\/a><\/span> the Peace Council\u2014initially announced as a component of the Gaza ceasefire process\u2014into a permanent, global structure positioned as a potential alternative to the United Nations.<\/p>\n

According to a draft charter reviewed<\/a><\/span> by Bloomberg, Trump is requesting a minimum contribution of $1 billion from nations seeking a permanent seat in this new international organization.<\/p>\n

The document stipulates that while member states may serve for a maximum of three years, this term limit will be waived for countries that provide more than $1 billion in cash contributions within the first year.<\/p>\n

The White House has confirmed the $1 billion contribution framework, characterizing the arrangement as “an opportunity offered to partners who demonstrate a commitment to peace and prosperity.”<\/p>\n

“Trump\u2019s United Nations”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The charter text, also obtained by the Financial Times and Reuters, indicates that the Peace Council will undertake an ambitious mission far beyond the borders of Gaza, aiming to “restore law-based governance” in various conflict zones.<\/p>\n

Trump is slated to serve as the inaugural president of the council, where he will hold ultimate authority over membership admissions and removals. While the framework envisions decisions being made by a majority vote, all resolutions require the president’s formal approval to take effect.<\/p>\n

Diplomatic sources have characterized the structure as “Trump\u2019s United Nations,” noting that it largely bypasses the foundational principles of the UN Charter.<\/p>\n

The charter itself justifies the new entity by citing the failure of existing international institutions and emphasizes a “courageous departure from failed approaches.”<\/p>\n

Leaders from T\u00fcrkiye, Egypt, and beyond invited to join<\/strong><\/p>\n

Formal invitation letters for the Peace Council are currently being dispatched to world leaders.<\/p>\n

Argentine President Javier Milei and Paraguayan leader Santiago Pe\u00f1a were among the first to confirm their invitations. Additionally, calls to join have been extended to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been invited on behalf of the European Union, with similar invitations sent to the leaders of France, Germany, Australia, and Canada.<\/p>\n

The council will officially commence operations once three countries formally accept the charter. However, the provision that funds will be under the direct control of Trump has reportedly caused friction among some prospective member states.<\/p>\n

Harsh criticism from Palestinian side: Serving Israeli interests<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the structure and objectives of the council continue to face international scrutiny, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement has issued a stinging critique.<\/p>\n

In a statement released Saturday, the group argued that the Peace Council is designed exclusively to protect Israeli interests and consolidate its regional dominance.<\/p>\n

Conversely, a US official speaking to the AP stated that the council’s expanded role is currently a “targeted vision.” The official noted that the objective is not to replace the United Nations entirely, but rather to generate a response to the growing global dissatisfaction with traditional international organizations.<\/p>\n
