Additionally, the Chinese President extended an invitation for Putin to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen in November 2026.<\/p>\n
Reminding that China will hold the APEC presidency in 2026, Ushakov said, “Russia supports China\u2019s activities during its APEC presidency, and our President will be ready to attend the meeting in Shenzhen.”<\/p>\n
The leaders reaffirmed that the comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction between their nations have reached an “unprecedented level.” Ushakov emphasized that the relationship is built on principles of equality and mutual benefit, does not target any third party, and remains resilient against shifting global dynamics.<\/p>\n
Highlighting their mutual support on core national interests, Ushakov remarked, “In the words of our Chinese friends, our countries move ‘back-to-back’ in the face of external threats and can rely on one another.”<\/p>\n
To better address emerging threats and challenges, the leaders agreed to activate permanent consultation mechanisms involving their respective Security Councils, Foreign Ministries, and Defense Ministries. Ushakov noted that this move aims to accelerate the coordination of approaches on sensitive and current issues to ensure timely responses.<\/p>\n
In this context, it was noted that Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, and Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission and Foreign Minister, held consultations in Beijing on February 1.<\/p>\n

On international matters, Xi expressed support for the security negotiations being conducted by the tripartite working group in Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Putin briefed his Chinese counterpart on recent initiatives aimed at a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis.<\/p>\n
Regarding Iran, Putin shared details of his January 30 meeting at the Kremlin with Ali Larijani, Head of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council. The leaders also expressed consensus on the situations in Venezuela and Cuba, stressing the need to maintain current levels of cooperation with Caracas and Havana.<\/p>\n
Evaluating developments in the Asia-Pacific region, Xi shared insights on Beijing-Tokyo relations, while Putin reaffirmed Russia\u2019s support for the “One China” principle regarding Taiwan.<\/p>\n
On the economic front, despite a slight dip in trade volume in 2025 attributed to “certain objective and subjective factors,” the two nations have exceeded the $200 billion threshold for three consecutive years. China remains Russia\u2019s largest trading partner, while Russia ranks fifth for China.<\/p>\n
The leaders pledged to further develop commercial ties, particularly in the energy sector, where Russia remains the top supplier of oil and pipeline gas to China. Putin also backed Xi\u2019s initiative to establish a global organization for cooperation on artificial intelligence.
