Canadian and UK funds freeze investments<\/strong><\/p>\n La Caisse, Canada\u2019s second-largest pension fund, and British International Investment (BII), the UK government\u2019s development finance institution, have announced the freezing of investment ties with the Dubai-based logistics conglomerate.<\/p>\n Both institutions have signaled strongly that Sulayem must step down, indicating they will not continue to work with the company under its current management structure.<\/p>\n In a statement regarding the matter, La Caisse, which holds a 45% stake in DP World Canada, declared, \u201cAdditional capital investments remain frozen until the situation is clarified and appropriate measures are taken.\u201d<\/p>\n Similarly, BII expressed shock at the allegations emerging from the Epstein files, noting that no new collaboration with DP World will be undertaken until necessary steps are implemented.<\/p>\n Ten-year close relationship and \u201ctorture video\u201d allegations<\/strong><\/p>\n The extent of the relationship between Bin Sulayem and Epstein was brought to light in the Epstein files released by the US Department of Justice, which comprise more than 3 million documents.<\/p>\n The documents reveal that Sulayem maintained contact with Epstein for more than a decade, even after the financier\u2019s 2008 conviction. The allegations include claims that Sulayem sent Epstein a \u201ctorture video,\u201d planned visits to Epstein\u2019s private island in the Caribbean, and discussed various investment opportunities.<\/p>\n As one of Dubai\u2019s most influential figures, Sulayem chairs the Dubai International Chamber of Commerce as well as the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation. He also played a pivotal role in the founding of Nakheel, the developer responsible for constructing Dubai\u2019s iconic palm-shaped artificial islands.<\/p>\n Congressman deciphers censorship in documents<\/strong><\/p>\n Sulayem\u2019s identity was confirmed after the US Department of Justice granted members of Congress permission to review unredacted versions of the documents.<\/p>\n Republican Congressman Thomas Massie publicly disclosed that Sulayem was the recipient of a 2009 email in which Epstein wrote, \u201cWhere are you?
