Based on current foreign exchange rates, this valuation translates to $842.7 per 1,000 cubic meters. According to ICE Futures data, this peak, recorded at 10:01 AM Moscow time, represents the highest level observed in three years.<\/p>\n
The rally saw a marginal cooling in subsequent trading; by 10:25 AM, April contracts were trading at $782.08 per 1,000 cubic meters, maintaining a 20.82% increase over the previous close.<\/p>\n
The upward trajectory of European gas prices has been consistent since early March, tracking the rapid deterioration of security in the Middle East. US and Israeli forces initiated military strikes against Iran on the morning of February 28.<\/p>\n
During the course of the operation, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed. Tehran responded to the escalation with a wave of missile and drone strikes targeting US military installations across the Persian Gulf. Specifically, Gazprom gains renewed leverage in negotiations over the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline, while Novatek sees increased strategic value for its Arctic LNG 2 project in terms of both volume and pricing.
