Qatari Prime Minister Al Thani has condemned<\/a><\/span> Iran\u2019s retaliatory actions against Gulf nations as an act of “betrayal” and a “dangerous miscalculation.”<\/p>\n

In a statement delivered Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani emphasized that regional states have consistently endeavored to maintain stable relations with Tehran, driven by profound concerns over the potential repercussions for the global economy. He further warned that any continued escalation of the conflict would trigger a “domino effect” across the entire region.<\/p>\n

In his first media interview since the air strikes targeted his country, the Qatari leader told Sky News:<\/p>\n

“There is a profound sense of betrayal. Just one hour after the war commenced, Qatar and other Gulf states were attacked. We had explicitly communicated that we would not participate in any military action against our neighbors. We never expected these strikes against the Gulf states from our neighbor.”<\/p>\n

The Qatari leader added, “We have always sought to preserve positive ties with Iran, but the justifications and excuses they have offered are entirely rejected.”<\/p>\n

Urging the US to spearhead efforts to reduce regional tensions, Al Thani underscored that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward. “We continue to strive for de-escalation. They are our neighbors; this is our destiny. The miscalculation the Iranians made by attacking Gulf countries has devastated everything,” he asserted.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister explicitly rejected Iranian claims that the strikes were limited to military targets. Instead, he alleged that 25% of the strikes hit civilian facilities, including international airports.<\/p>\n

“Regarding the US, we seek a reduction in tension and a diplomatic resolution that addresses both our concerns and theirs. Primarily, we must ensure that Iran ceases all hostilities against the Gulf states\u2014who are not parties to this war\u2014and the other nations it has targeted,” Al Thani stated.<\/p>\n

Qatar holds 20% of the world\u2019s known natural gas reserves and stands as one of the globe\u2019s preeminent fertilizer producers. Consequently, the escalating volatility in the Middle East has begun to trigger significant disruptions across international food supply chains and commodity markets.<\/p>\n
