Days before the expiry of the 60-day deadline for Israel to withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon, it was revealed that Israel had requested an additional 30 days from the United States.<\/p>\n
In a written statement, Hezbollah called on Lebanese authorities to pressure the guarantors of the agreement to ensure its full and comprehensive implementation.<\/p>\n
The Hezbollah statement emphasized that the 60-day period for Israel’s final withdrawal from Lebanese territory is almost over and stressed that the withdrawal must be fully and comprehensively implemented in accordance with the articles specified in the ceasefire agreement.<\/p>\n
The statement also called for creating suitable conditions for the return of the Lebanese people to their settlements in the south, adding that “exceeding the 60-day period will be considered a clear violation of the agreement and Lebanese sovereignty.”<\/p>\n
Under the 27 November ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army must hand over all its positions in southern Lebanon to the Lebanese Armed Forces by 26 January. However, in recent weeks, Israel has claimed that the withdrawal has been delayed because Lebanese forces have not deployed quickly enough in the region. Yesterday, the Israeli press reported that the Tel Aviv administration asked the US for a 30-day extension of the withdrawal timetable.
