The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is calling for a referendum on Germany’s support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n
In an interview with the Berliner Zeitung<\/em>, BSW leader Sahra Wagenknecht emphasized that their demands are based on the signs of peace talks between Russia and the US, which are likely to have a major impact on Europe.<\/p>\n Noting that Western allies had supported the country with arms, money, and humanitarian aid since the start of the war, the BSW leader also reacted to Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock’s assessment that a package of hundreds of billions of euros was being prepared to arm Europe.<\/p>\n “700 billion for armaments for Ukraine and the deployment of Bundeswehr troops? We are calling for a referendum on Germany’s Ukraine policy,” Wagenknecht said.<\/p>\n The BSW argues that citizens should be consulted on this policy after the Bundestag elections, but if possible, before the election of the chancellor.<\/p>\n In view of the new situation, the threat is more of a burden for Germany, not less, Wagenknecht said.<\/p>\n “If we deploy troops, we could even become a direct party to the war. It is good that the US is negotiating with Russia, but at the same time, they want us to pay the bill and send troops.
