In a written statement from the Egyptian Presidency Information Service, it was stated that two delegations from Israel and Qatar arrived in Cairo, with the participation of US representatives, to complete negotiations on the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The statement noted that intensive talks between the relevant parties regarding the subsequent phases of the ceasefire agreement have begun, and efforts to implement the current agreement are ongoing.<\/p>\n
The statement also mentioned that the mediators are discussing ways to enhance the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip as part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of civilians and support stability in the region.<\/p>\n
A statement from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday indicated that Netanyahu had instructed the negotiating team to travel to Cairo to continue the talks. Israeli state television KAN also reported that the US and Israel are holding talks to consider the possibility of extending the first phase of the prisoner exchange agreement for several more weeks.<\/p>\n
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar also stated that the Israeli negotiating team in Cairo would discuss the possibility of finding common ground to extend the first phase of the agreement in exchange for the release of more captured soldiers.<\/p>\n
Israeli state television KAN, citing an unnamed Israeli official, reported that the primary goal of the negotiating team heading to Cairo today is “to ensure the release of live hostages on Saturday, March 1.”<\/p>\n
The ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement reached between Hamas and Israel came into effect on Sunday, January 19, at 12:15 PM local time.<\/p>\n
As part of the agreement, on Monday, January 27, the Netzarim Corridor was opened for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to move from south to north, and the Israeli army withdrew from the Netzarim Corridor on February 9.<\/p>\n
The Rafah Border Crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt was opened on February 1 for the evacuation of the sick and wounded, following an 8-month occupation by the Israeli army.<\/p>\n
In the prisoner exchanges during the first phase of the agreement, over 1,700 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails were released, while 25 living hostages in Gaza and the bodies of 8 hostages declared dead in Israeli attacks were handed over. Additionally, 5 Thai hostages in Gaza were also released.<\/p>\n
