Katz orders disciplinary action against military intelligence chief
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi to take disciplinary action against the head of Military Intelligence, Shlomi Binder, who had warned of the potential negative consequences of Trump’s Gaza plan.
According to a report published on Channel 13 , Binder, speaking at an evaluation meeting on Trump’s proposal to evacuate Gaza residents and rebuild the territory, cautioned that such a move could escalate violence in the West Bank. Binder particularly highlighted concerns about the upcoming Ramadan period, which could exacerbate tensions. However, the same report clarified that Binder did not directly oppose Trump’s plan but merely warned of its possible repercussions.
Defense Minister Katz stated, “It is unacceptable for Israeli officers to make statements contradicting US President Trump’s significant plan for Gaza and the directives of the political leadership.” Katz also emphasized that he had instructed the military to accelerate preparations for the voluntary departure of Palestinians wishing to leave Gaza, adding, “This is precisely what the army must do, and it will carry it out.”
On the other hand, it is well-known that Katz has frequently clashed with Chief of Staff Halevi, who recently tendered his resignation, effective as of March.
