US pressures Egypt to accept Trump’s ‘Gaza plan’
The US is reportedly pressuring Egypt to accept Trump’s Gaza plan, which involves the resettlement of Palestinians in Egypt.
According to a report in the London-based newspaper, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, citing Egyptian sources in Washington, the Pentagon threatened to limit military aid to compel Cairo to adhere to Trump’s plan.
The report indicates that the Egyptian army’s routine maintenance materials and spare weapon parts could be impacted by this reduction in aid.
On January 25, Trump suggested that Egypt and Jordan should take in Palestinians from Gaza. In the days that followed, he asserted that the US should assume control of Gaza and that Palestinians should be permanently resettled in other locations.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry declared that it would propose an alternative plan for Gaza’s reconstruction, ensuring that Palestinians would stay on their land. However, despite objections from Egypt, Jordan, and other Arab nations, Trump is persisting with his plan.
