Curfew extended in Homs following deadly sectarian violence

In the Syrian city of Homs, internal security forces affiliated with the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) administration announced that the curfew in several neighborhoods has been extended until 17:00 today.

The decision was reportedly made to ensure the safety of citizens following clashes throughout the province that erupted after a recent murder.

A statement from the governor’s office clarified the scope of the ban.

The restriction covers the Abbasiyah, Arman, Muhajirin, Zahra, Nuzha, Ikrima, Nazihin, Ashira, Zaydal, Karm al-Zaytoun, Karm al-Luz, Hayy al-Wurud, and Masakin al-Shurta areas.

The administration urged all residents in these neighborhoods to comply with the decision for their own safety.

The announcement also highlighted the necessity of completing ongoing security procedures in the field.

Tensions escalated yesterday after a couple from the Bani Khalid tribe were murdered in the town of Zaydal.

The discovery of sectarian slogans at the crime scene added another dimension to the murder, triggering clashes that spread to other neighborhoods of the city.

Following the murder, assailants from Bedouin tribes reportedly set numerous houses on fire, destroyed vehicles, and opened fire indiscriminately.

Dozens of people were killed or injured as security units struggled to regain control amid the chaos, which also included incidents of kidnapping.

A security source, speaking to the HTS-controlled al-Ikhbariya channel, announced that stability has been restored in the areas that experienced unrest.

The source reported that the local population welcomed the deployment of security forces and has been cooperative.

Competent authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

It was emphasized that the Internal Security Forces stationed in Homs will resolutely prevent any attempt to disrupt social peace and stability.

Officials also issued warnings against any exploitation of the incident.
