Egypt counters Trump’s Gaza plan with reconstruction vision

Egypt, which refuses to allocate land to Palestinians, announced that it plans to present a vision for the reconstruction of Gaza that will guarantee the Palestinian people remain on their own land.

The Egyptian channel Al-Qahira al-Ikhbariya, citing unnamed Egyptian sources, reported that the Cairo administration opposes any proposal to allocate land to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip or to resettle them elsewhere.

Senior Egyptian officials maintained their position on the issue and rejected the idea of relocating Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Any proposal to allocate a place in the country for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip or to resettle them elsewhere was rejected. The solution to the crisis must ensure that the Palestinians in Gaza remain in their own land.

Egypt expresses its discontent with the statements made by Israeli and US officials on the Palestinian issue, the report said.

On February 4, US President Donald Trump said that the US would ‘take over’ the Gaza Strip, arguing that it would be much better for Palestinians in Gaza to move to new settlements to be built in neighboring countries, especially Egypt and Jordan. Trump also stated that he wanted to ‘turn Gaza into the Riviera of the Middle East.’

The Egyptian government announced that it plans to present a vision for the reconstruction of Gaza that will guarantee the Palestinian people remain on their own land.

In a written statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry emphasized its desire to cooperate with the US administration led by President Donald Trump for a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

In this context, the statement said, ‘the aim is to present a comprehensive vision for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip in a way that ensures the continued existence of the Palestinian people in their land in accordance with their legitimate and legal rights.’

Any vision for the resolution of the Palestinian issue must take into account the need to avoid jeopardizing peace gains in the region in parallel with the quest to contain and deal with the causes and roots of the conflict by ending Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories.

It also emphasized the need to implement the two-state solution as the only way for coexistence and stability among the peoples of the region.

During his meeting with US President Trump at the White House yesterday, King Abdullah II of Jordan announced for the first time that he had an ‘Egyptian plan’ on the issue but did not elaborate on the plan in question.
